Paid antivirus - Kaspersky...best antivirus out there
Free antivirus - Avast or AVG...both are pretty good for free software

For spyware I use both Spybot and Ad-Aware...both free.

I have used Avast for awhile now with Zone alarm. These days you need a good firewall and a proxy servers is also not a bad idea either like Ghost surf.

I use Zone Alarm Security Suite. Fairly small compared to Norton's and they have it all: anti virus, firewall, spam filtering, automatic updates, and will do a scheduled full disk scan when you set the day/time.

Good Product Mibby!

#1 antivirus software in the market is McAfee, hands down! It offers a variety of protection and, from what I've seen, the only software that offers removal of the malware/virus/adware. The others only offer to quarantine it.

For further protection I use Webroot's Spysweeper. Pretty solid program, runs in the back ground virtually un-noticed. This is primarily for adware and most malware agents.

If you pay for Spysweeper it'll delete files.

Too bad Jilly burned to death before frank died when a car rear-ended his Jaguar in Rancho Mirage. The electrical system (Joseph Lucas, Prince of Darkness) failed, electric windows and door locks didn't open......

Wow, I can't believe I'm agreeing with Stan :thud:

Avast's free version does a better job than both Norton and McAfee, which are the two best-selling antivirus applications. They maintain that status only because of brand identity.

I stand by my assertion that Kaspersky is the best out there. Check out

CNet's User Review of NOD32 is 9.5. Cnet's User Review Of Kaspersky is 5.9. Of course CNet's editorial reviews are reversed.

These are minor points. NOD32 and Kaspersky are both light years ahead of Norton and lock-up-my-computer-McAfee.

I found this at ConsumerSearch.com:

Best antivirus software for experts.

Reviews agree that NOD32 2.5 is as good as or better than Kaspersky Anti-Virus, but there is a fatal flaw -- a "spectacularly bad" user interface, as described by Scot Finnie of Scot's Newsletter. Although computer experts say NOD32 offers excellent configuration flexibility and control, novices will be confused by its unintuitive and confusing interface. That puts NOD32 out of contention for anyone but the most sophisticated computer users.

I guess you're "confused", huh?

Of course, the current version of NOD32 is 2.7.

I've used McAfee scurity console for the last few years. It has caught a couple of things and I haven't been infected. Stan prolly knows what he is talking about, I am just too lazy to change. I also use Tiny's personal firewall. That is free and I like it. The McAfee anti-spyware slows my computer down so much I deactivated it.

I guess to be truly protected you must have multiple software running. Antivirus, Antispyware and Antimalware. They all compliment each other and yes, they will also slow our PCs down a bit. Well worth it though.

I use Norton's AntiVirus, free version of Zone Alarm, Spy Sweeper, and surf nearly everything using FireFox. I haven't had any problems in 2-3 years probably.
