I think me and Vince are the only Mach's so far, and I of course cannot fix the clocks, it's all done via the sensors in the track. If you come all the way from Michigan, I will leave a "comp pass" for you so you can get in as my guest...

Hope you can make it!!!

Not ever having run on an authorized straight line, what do you need to bring in order to qualify for being able to run on the track....I already have a TR Mach 1.....

TIA,

Bring a helmet, rated Snell95, that should be all you need.

Hi Greg,

May have to buy a new helmet, as I don't think my old "leather" :D circle track helmet with the US flag motif will meet Snell95 rating. I sent you pm the other days, can I get my name on th ecomp list?

TIA,
Alex/WI

All you have to do to take part, is mention at the entry gates that you are "with Greg's car club" and they will charge you $12.00 to race rather than $30.00 :D

You won't be asked to show any sort of membership card, they will simply let you in at a discount.

Greg,

Thanks, that's real cool....I'm gonna do my best to get there.

Today I took the day off from work and took the wife for a little ride to enjoy the fall colors and to add some miles to the car...we finally broke 500. We stopped in Lake Geneva for lunch and I ran into the initial salesman that got me convinced to get the Mach...he simply let me test drive their DSG at "full on" without ever saying a word about.."but sir, you shouldn't do that nor go that fast"...he was new and only on the job for 2 weeks....bet he'll be telling his grandkids how his first test drive the silly customer took him over 110.

When he saw me in the parking lot of the restaurant with my new TR, his smile was as big as mine...I thanked him for sending me over the line and I gave him a $20 Gander MT. gift card as thanks....

Hope to see you next week,
Alex/WI

You're welcome Vince! Races like that one are what make the sport worth being a participant. I am still seeing the whole thing in my mind's eye; running totally door-to-door, right to the traps.

There must be some formula to calculate how close .006 is in terms of inches when traveling around 104 MPH, because I know it is less than a foot!

Let's get back to GLD before it closes for the winter and I'll put on the tires that are on the Cobra. We'll settle this once and for all!! :D :D

I hope at the very least, some of the things I always harp on, like cutting a light and doing a proper burnout are rubbing off on you- you're a young buck and have plenty of time to master these things. Make me proud bro..

Here's our slips from yesterday:

http://www.mach-1.org/photopost/data/1/1machtomach-med.jpg

The one on the left represents my best ever so far, the one on the right, our other matchup. Notice I ran a full tenth slower on the second pass? It appears that the car runs better when cold. I let it warm up slightly before we raced the first time, as you know it had been sitting for about 7 hours as I was running the tower yesterday. I warmed it up to where the temp guage had moved only slightly up the scale (I know, idiot guages) but on the second run, the guage was up to the half-way mark, where it sits when my Mach is fully warmed up.

You might want to try and let yours sit for a LONG time, watch the other races and then go for a new best.

Tons of fun Mr. Vince, thanks for the great competition...

To save face, I do have to say- I told you in our little trash-talk fest on that other website, that you better bring your best light with you, because I was gonna whoop yo' azzz off that 'tree. At the very least, I think a .502 light could be considered walking the walk after talking the talk. Too bad I could not pull off the win..

I hate to quote a stupid movie, but like Vin Diesel says: "It don't matter if you win by an INCH or a mile.... WINNING is WINNING!"

And you won by an inch, maybe three. I lost. Congrats again...

Here are a few photos that my Dad took yesterday. Man that was one of the best races that I have ever watched. Greg school Vince on the tree but he 60'ed Greg(only cuz he had nittos and did a john force style burnout(he just learned how to do that:D )) I had a great time Greg. I liked watching the jet car from the tower. I had a best yesterday as well but not by much still trying to get this rear suspension worked out right.

Edit: Greg did you notice that Vince threw his hazard on at the line, tellin you he had allready won :D

Joel, I wish someone had videotaped that run, it was just too damn cool...!

Glad you guys had a good time. For me it was great to be back in the tower. I used to do that 5 days per week, after my "other" job was done, back when I lived in Milwaukee and could get to GLD in less than 1/2 an hour.

I think you guys got to see firsthand why I love that place so much. The tower view is just too cool if you love drag racing, and it's neat to be able to run the computers and operate the tower controls. You are always welcome to come up and visit if I am working. Just tell Vince that we haven't finished this thing yet and I'm gunning for him on the Nittos!!!

Greg, Vince et al,

Thanks for an eye opening experience , albeit a rude awakening. After sitting in line for 4 hours and hand pushing the car all the way up to the line, I still had to sit in the front of the waiting line while the jet car spit his gism all over my car. When I finally got up to the tree, trying not to embarrass myself by staging my rear wheels... I got staged all right...but then the world came crashing down...the only memory I have of that terrible 15 seconds of my life is...." how do I stop my car from rolling passed the staging lights?"...I can see it as clear as day...my Mach is rolling forward and I don't have enough feet to hold in the clutch and keep it revved at 1800 and put on the brake to stop it as it's rolling through even before the middle yellow ever came on...YIKES..all I remember after that was seeing the red and than nothing after that....I didn't even (and still don't) know where the traps are or where to get off the accelerator...all I remember was " make sure your get off the track by the ambulance..Don't ask me any RPM shift numbers ... heck I don't even remember how many times I shifted..but I did use my turn signal to get of the track...

But it was fun until then. I wished I could have tried a couple more times, but I was already there for almost 6 hours and could take another 4 hours of the waiting line. I think I'll got out Tuesday night and try to do a couple more runs just to see if I can remember anything from the runs. Sorry if I embarrassed the rest of you Mach guys and thanks for all the advice and best wishes.

See you all soon again.

Alex, drop me a note before the season ends. I'll issue you a comp pass (race for free) and we'll get you some seat time. If you are unsure about the way to stage or where the traps are, you can ride with me on a few shakedown passes and we'll get you squared away. I'm sorry about yesterday, it was a cluster-you-know-what with all those cars there, and also the girl who usually runs the computers had to go to a wedding, so I ended up getting stuck upstairs running the tower all day. Didn't give me much time to say hello to anyone, although now that you say you had a red mach, I am certain I saw it.

Greg

Greg, that would be great and I would appreciate any of your tracktime teachings, especially as I had been told numerous times that you ARE the light KING. I'm only about 20 minutes from the track, so getting there shouldn't be too big of a deal, pending any work/home conflicts. Let me know when you go there next and when it would be convenient to try it out as a ride along.

I'm pretty sure that I'm "gonna" have to go there this Tuesday, just to satisfy my curiosity and try it again, like I said, Saturday was just a big blur. I just need to know that I can go green.

I do remember hearing you over the PA and asking Vince "who was in the Red Mach?" as I was getting near the front. Yep, that was me.

Hope to see you soon,
Alex/WI

Are you doing anything else to the car to get it in to the 11's?

Well I did get the big Monkey off my back tonight a bit and didn't turn on one red light in tonight's 10 passes. This being only my second time ever on a drag strip I am still confused a bit by the starting technique, but I am beginning to work it out a bit, so I still will have the little monkey(getting a .5XX R/T & under 2.0 60 foot) on my back till next time.

Tonight's "learn-by-my-seat" results...13.679 best ET, 2.056 60foot, .672 R/T and 102.00 best MPH. Nothing major to write home about, but a little smile still resides on my face.

Thanks again to all you guys for some of the pointers and I look to learn more from you in the near future.

Thanks,
:hrs:
