I'm curious on how manny mach 1s are modified or stock.

1. Bone stock (except replacement parts from wear and tear i.e. tires)----

2. Looks modifed----

3. Performance modified----

4. Performance and looks modified----

Cat Back exh (Borla) and K&N filter with plans for a Roush short throw shifter. If you want to call them performance mods.

Does aftermarket oil and air count as performance modified?

What made you go with the Roush shifter? I am trying to decide which shifter to get. I tried a Steeda Tri-Ax that was installed and it seemed very sweet, plus I had a Steeda on my Tremec 3550 in a '65 coupe. I have heard people like the Pro 5.0. I have not heard anything about the Roush shifter. What's the price and where do you get them?

Mine is completely stock and it will be staying that way. I like it just the way it is. :bna

Here is a good pic of it. I want it more for the style (looks old school) as much as for performance. I tried to contact this comp but says # is nonworking. Anyhow you can get them from Roush Performance. I havent bought it yet trying to find a better $ than Roush. This was a lower cost but WTF? Tried email also and it was returned undeliverable

I like the way the stock shifter angles toward the driver. It looks like the Roush shifter takes that angle away. I think I will go with the Steeda. I had one in my '65 coupe on the Tremec 3550 and it was great. I have shifted one installed in a Mach 1 and is was good there too. Did not actually drive the Mach 1 with the Steeda, but it sure felt good sitting still.

Thanks for the info.

I'm not changing to a short throw base. That is just a handle that uses the stock base. I want the "old school" look. I use my car 99% on the street and the stock shifter works for me just looking for a different look. Also want a non metal knob that sucker is HOT in the TX sun believe me But hey enjoy the STEEDA its a nice shifter.

Yeah, it gets a little hot here in the summer time too (and cold in the winter - 9 deg yesterday), but I love the look. I will need to find a fix for the stock knob problem being upside down on the Steeda shifter, or go with another knob :( There must be a good fix for it, just need to find it. Maybe add a shim or two.

Black Bart is a daily driver. Either me or my wife drives it to and from work on a daily basis. I want a shifter I can count on, that will permit my occasional power shift to 3rd. As it is now, I will not even try to power shift to 3rd. The 1-2 and 3-4 shifts are fine. Even on a speed shift I miss 3rd 1 out of 4 times and I HATE when that happens.

I think I would go with the Hurst shifter if I were to go retro, but the Roush is very close to the Hurst shifter. It looks good too, just not my cup of tea.

Thanks.

mach!at61 here, My 04 Azure blue Mach1 w/iup is bone stock. I havent even put in the k&n yet. The car is getting faster with more miles {680 right now}. I think it sounds good with the stock exhaust. In the spring when i take it to the track i'll see what it does i have an et & mph in mind , that i want to hit . i,m hoping to achieve it without mods but we'll see. P.S. pardon my typing.:

Hi guys mach!at61 here. I was just at another website and the guys were talking about broken axels when using drag radials. any comments?

Yeah, it's becuase the axles are cast not forged. Another cost cutting measure, no doubt :( So if you plan to do any serious drag racing, upgrade to forged 31 spline axles first. Or go as far as you can with the stock axles and change when you break the them. :D

to 03blkmach1, thanks for the info. I really don't plan on doing any serious track racing, but I want to go to the track in the spring to try the car out. I had an 01GT,that I traded for the Mach1 and I had 17" Nitto drag radials. I wanted to use these tires on the Mach but I don't want to break the axlles. I guess I'll just go with the stock tires. I hope you enjoy the car, no matter what you decide. I will be going to the track in May (new ownership closed til then) just to see what I can do on a 100% stock basis. Good luck.
