December 2004: wurd2's 2003 Oxford White Mach1

"Growing up I was mostly interested in building and upgrading computers and R/C cars, despite the wonderful projects that were taking place in my father's garage. Although I surely appreciated and enjoyed the thrill of riding around in those projects, they did not inspire passion and curiosity within me. And then I bought a Mach1. What started with the urge to lower the car and make the exhaust louder, grew into the desire to build a race car, being ideal for both road and drag racing. Many months and many more dollars later, I wound up with a modification list that far exceeded my original intentions. Before the modifications began, I thought I had a basic understanding of cars and engines, but after all the work that my father and I have done, and all that I have read about, my knowledge has increased a hundred-fold and yet it is still basic at best. This month, my father and I are going to undertake the rebuilding of my rear end. I am planning on using a Torsen differential, Moser axles, and FRPP 4.30 gears. Originally, I was going to purchase an assembled rear end package from Currie Enterprises, but my father, having setup many rear ends in his day, convinced me that we could do this ourselves and save money. Over a beer and with a grin, he also said we'd do it for bragging rights."
