Well i finally found a spot for a couple of miles with not too much traffic and some good twisty roads...I had a buddy snap some shots from the inside...next time I'll get some from the outside...

Looks cool, I went this weekend into the Olympic mountains, there is a about a 30 mile run of nothing but twisty roads, had a blast running the mach thru those, whats really nice is the way she handles after putting on all the black sheep canyon carvers items. The only thing I'm missing are the Toyo tires, which I figure to get soon.

well, if you look at the first set I attatched...

the first picture the car understeered pretty bad through a huge u turn...mostly my fault, I came in too low and tried to go high to correct but couldn't get the speed necessary so the car pushed really hard which is why it looks like I'm heading for that guard rail :thud:

the second pic (where you can see the guages I hate so much) was totally my fault, I took a 5mph turn at about 20mph...which as you can see my RPM's are dropping pretty fast...I got wayyyy to loose...I wish that picture would have been taken a few seconds later...when i countered the oversteer the car shot off like a rocket and I went from about a spinning 10mph to 45mph in no time at all...pretty fun!!!

Wow, I just noticed the gauges, hmmm don't want to say negative, but yuck. I see why you don't like them, I went with the retro ring in satin, which I really like, it keeps the stock look but gives it that extra something.

well, I had ordered a 2001 cobra instrument cluster but that never came in...so I might just switch back to the stockers...but it's such a PITA to do that I just haven't got around to it...I really don't like the way they look at all!!!!

Like another member said to me in person..."well now that I know you don't like them...they really are ricey!" (thanks hawkpilot)!!

actually, it's here in va beach...only about two miles long...and only about 5 or 6 really good turns so I go up and down 3 or 4 times.

take Dam Neck towards Princess Anne...Go all the way to the end of dam neck at the stadium where it turns into a huge U-turn...thats usually where I start...then after the U, I make the first left and follow that all the way down to Indian River Rd. Pretty fun, but way to short...hence the reason I make about 4 trips and burn over a 1/4 tank of gas in the process...too much fun!!!

I will have a pic for you tonight!...I like the way black looks, but it's too hard to keep up...I simply love the upkeep on a DSG car!!! Hence my purchase!!!!

It is a little stretch but you should go to Deals Gap in the Smokies and run the Tail of The Dragon. Believe me you will need some good tires and be ready for smoking brakes. The Cobra Club is running the Dragon this Saturday so come on down and lets make it 2 Mach's showing what a live axel can do on the twisties.

I guarantee one run and your face will be hurting from grinning all the way. The curves are agressive and are banked. 11 miles and 388 curves and not a straight stretch of road any place.

Hey DT, check out Filmtools.com (http://www.filmtools.com) for a great suction cup in-car camera mount (http://store.yahoo.com/cinemasupplies/wicamonew.html). I got one a while back and it's perfect for small camcorders. I used it to video the (slow) lap of the IMS road course I did after the USGP. Works really well.

I really want to do it, but i've heard on the weekends that it gets really crowded and the driving isn't too fast? IS that wrong?

Still I really want to do it!!!

I don't know about that, but it's really cool for road driving. When I did the lap at Indy it was just a "tour" kind of thing, so there was no question. . .

Yes when school is out and there are a lot of visitors to the Smokes the road can get crowded. What we will do is hit the Dragon early in the morning before the crowd. The Dragon is really in an out of the way area, between Fontana Village and Cades Cove so this section is really not heavily traveled.

What I do is go in at Deals Gap and there is a store that everyone meet at. You can get a handle on the cops and traffic on the road. You can also find out if any tractor trailers are hung up on the curves. Yes the curves are so sharp that tractor trailers can not make the turn, but it only takes one time for them to learn.

The great thing about this stretch of road is that everyone knows it is used by racers and everyone looks out for one another. Of course the cops know it as well. But we do keep safety in mind. The first pass needs to be conservative just to realize this is one mean road. The road has a fresh road surface and very smooth.

Even during a weekday the parking lot at the Deal Gap Store will be filled with cars and crotch rockets.

I vacationed at VA Beach in May and enjoyed driving there as well. I like Sandbridge between Princess Anne and Sand Fiddler. Had a lot of fun driving that. . .

Have you guys checked-out the Skyline Drive through Shenandoah Nat'l Park?

There is a great web site for the Dragon to check out all the roads and conditions. www.tailofthedragon.com This site can give a lot more information than I can give. There are maps to help you find the Dragon from any place.

Years ago I did a job in Norton Virginia and stayed in the Shenandoah over the weekend. Loved the stay. I have not been back since. How are the roads?

Any one going to attend the driving school at Virginia VIR July 5&6. I tried everything short of quitting to get the days off. If any one is going, please let me know how it was.

The road through the park--at least the part of it we drove--was extremely well-maintained. Lots of fun, though it's not exactly a good place for a true banzai run.
