Didn't they give you any sort of primer? Moderators introduce new topics, watch the forms for "trouble" and assist members with questions and such. WIth regard to content, that depends on the club. Club events, functions etc etc... If you need assistance with coding questions, we'll try to help as best we can...

The only primer was a desire to bring the club, possibly kicking and screeming, into the current decade.
I would like a way to route most of the forum traffic to sites like this for disscussions and just keep the club site forums for classifieds and events.
I want to publish the club events, member information and meeting sites along with pictures and profiles of members and past events.
The club has about 350 members with about 40 to 60 active.
We put on the largest indoor Ford powered car show in the southwest ( 14 years in a row now ) The Yellow Rose Classic and a monthly cruise from April to October.
Is there any reference material I can purchase to help with the layout?
Again, any help from you and the other members here would be much appreciated, you seem to be on the "Bleeding Edge" of this art form.
TIA

Well Rick, I tend to do a lot of "freeform" scripting. I like to take things and make them my own in a manner of speaking. There are a lot of programs out there for web development. I tend to use the "high end" programs like Photoshop, Macromedia Flash, Adobe GoLive etc..., but you can find webpage creation programs on the cheap if you look for them.

There's a site called Coffee Cup that has a great selection of cheap software for web developers and entry-level webmasters. Go to http://www.coffeecup.com
