I have yet another question for everyone out there!

I have seen the red cobra brake calipers with the horse logo on them, and I think they would look friggen awesome with my '04 torch red mach! Anyone know where I can get em for a good price, and what I would need to do to get them installed and functioning? Anyone have em and have comments? Thanks again everyone!!!!

Neo, the pony calipers are available through Summit Racing.
The P/N is M-2320-f for the front and M-2320-B for the rear.List is $285 & $235. You must use FMS in front of all P/N's. Hope that helps man~~~~marty

Why not just paint yours RED? Also I dont beleive they are the same the COBRA has Brembos we dont We have Brembo rotors but not calipers. (someone correct me if Im wrong cuz Ibeen wrong b4) If Im not mistaken ours are the same as on the 01 Bullitt though. (calipers)

The calipers on my Mach are the same as the ones on my 1994 Cobra, sans the "COBRA" stamping. They are PBR...

Oh yes, one more suggestion- as long as you are replacing the calipers, you might want to opt for braided stainless brake lines too...

Because I need the pony on them dammit!!! When I got my car down in San Antonio, there was an Oxford '03 at Jordan Ford that had the SVT Cobra Suspention, Clutch, Brakes, and a custom exhaust. The red calipers with the ponies on them look damn nice, and that was with a white car... with my '04 Torch, it would look damn good. :D

I thought our calibers had 2 pistons and the 2003 Cobra had 4. Correct me if this wrong I think thats what I read. I have a Torch Red Mach too and painted calibers would look really cool.

I have asked the same question and I learned other than looks that the braided stainless steel brake hose does not swell up with pressure as the rubber hose does. So the fluid pressure to the calipers is to the calipers.

Another thing I learned is that if your Mach is at least a year old, you should consider changing the brake fluid. This has to do with the water content that can be found in the brake fluid.

So if you are going to change out the calipers, you are already working in this area and it pays in the long run.

The best replacement is Dot 4 and I like Castol and will change my fluid just before summer. I have found with Dot 4 you just get better pedel feel than with Dot 3.

Here is a pic of them. I found that they are usually listed under "Bullitt Calipers" so maybe I was wrong in thinking they were cobra?

Not to hijack this thread but... I learned up-close and personal why it's better to go to stainless lines, if you plan to do any sort of performance driving (road racing or autocross)
I ran my Cobra at Road America last spring, and was going 126 MPH on the back straight, heading for corner 5.... My rubber brake line popped like a balloon right where it attaches to the caliper. Losing your brakes while going 126 MPH heading for a sharp turn is NOT my idea of a good time. :thud: I ended up using the clutch to get the car to stop, about three feet from coming back out on the other side of the track.

After the fact, one of the guys from Northwoods Cobra Club told me that that won't allow you to race at their sponsored events at R/A unless you have upgraded the lines, because this is a known weakness on the earlier SN95 Cobras.

I went for the Brembo kit with the 4-piston calipers:

I won't need to do this to the Mach, I don't plan to drive it on any road courses....

Brake Fluid info:

http://mach1review.com/BrakeFluidsInfo.html

General Brake Info:

http://mach1review.com/helpful_brakes.html

Mach 1 brakes are the same as the Cobra brakes. They are a dual piston design. They are not opposing dual pistons and this is not the best of designs although it is a cost effective way to manufacture calipers.

If you are seriously looking to upgrading brakes..definately do what Greg has done! Actually the best way to increase the performance is to go to the largest size rotor available. If you have 17" wheels then you're stuck at 13.00" roughly, but if you move up to 18" you can fit 14" rotors. Improving on the calipers is a good thing with Brembo etc. but make sure that they are "streetable" not race calipers that you are putting on the street (unless racing is your only intention). Make sure they are of a opposing multi-piston design with differential bores and preferably made from aluminum as aluminum will disapate heat faster..heat is the absolute enemy to braking!!!

Steel braided lines are a must!!! For a variety of reasons...as Greg has already pointed out. The steel braided lines do not expand under the high fluid pressure thus making brake pedal "feel" firm and since the hoses are not expanding like rubber will, you are putting more fluid force where it needs to be..in the brake systems clamping force.

Now if you're going to go this far to improve braking..do not forget about brake fluid!!! A good brake fluid will make a lot of difference in how your braking system will perform! Check the links for some info. My personal favorite here is ATE Super Blue for the street and Motul 660C for the track.

A wise racer once said, "It is more important to stop, than go!!!" :spinem: :spinem: :spinem:

tach, seriously you should pm everyone and point them in the direction of the mach1 review...i think you quote it at least every 5 posts. It must be nice to have a well of knowledge, i'm sure i'll tap it from time to time...keep it up!!

btw, did i mention it's friday!! :hehe:

The calipers with the pony you are referring to are special edition found on the Bullit.

M-2320F-Front caliper kit includes left and right with pads $285.00

M2320R-Rear kit is $235.00

You can contact Jason (screen name Skooza) at http://duthlerford.net/index.asp mention the Mach1 registry he should be able to give you a good price.

Those red "Bullitt" calipers look GREAT with torch red cars......Although without the horse (embossed Cobra instead) the 03 SVT 10th anniversary Cobras had calipers painted that red-saw them on a torch red 10th anniversary Cobra recently--really looked great. Yes, for track performance you can and probably should get 'better' but if your building a mild performance machine with looks being important and your Mach is Torch Red I highly recommend them--they are going on mine (along with 10th Anniversary Cobra wheels--when I sold the white 03 Mach I spent 48 hours in agony over the replacement--04 TR Mach 1 or 03 TR 10th Anniversary Cobra (had my pick of either). Loved the wheels and red brakes on the Cobra with the TR body color but loved the shaker more--bought the 04 Mach but will add (to ME) the best part of the 03 Anniversary Cobra regarding looks-the wheels and red brakes. Yes, I could paint my calipers red but gotta love that shiny pony on the Bullit version.

lonestar i wouldn't suggest changing your brake fluid unless you make sure you get all the dot3 out. as my teacher once drew this pic 0000000o00o000 0=dot4 o=dot3 a chain is only as strong and your weakest link, goodbye! lol. just a few words of wisdom

OK, so how do you get all the old fluid out? What do you flush the system with that will not harm it? I'm coming up on that 1 year mark soon. So, while I have the brakes apart painting them and the calipers (and axle, and diff, and....), I might as well do the high performance pads and the fluid.

I don't remember if i read this on the Mach1 Review or tach9 told me.

The simplest way is to get ATE Super Blue brake fluid and just bleed the lines until you get the blue color. You can get the ATE in a gold color and to change the Super Blue just switch to the Gold.

tach9 did a good review on brakes and brake fluids on the Mach 1 Review.
